The College was first established in 1980 as O’Connor Christian School at the O’Connor Uniting Church premises. Mr David Button was the founding Principal, and the school was established not as an elite school but rather as a dedicated Christian school focused on Christ-centred education. The school opened with 29 children enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Within the first year of opening, enrolments exceeded expectations and there was not enough room at the O’Conner Uniting Church location to cater for the growing enrolments. In 1982, O’Connor Christian School moved to 136 Brigalow Street Lyneham, and the school grew to include two secondary classes (Years 7-8).
In 1998, O’Connor Christian School was taken over by Brindabella Christian Education Limited and renamed as Brindabella Christian College. At this time, it became a member of Christian Schools Australia.
In 2011, Brindabella Christian College expanded to Year 11, and the first Year 12 cohort graduated with Senior Secondary Certificates and ATAR’s in 2012.
In 2013, the College gained registration for an additional campus, and the Charnwood Campus opened at 46 Lhotsky Street, Charnwood and at the start of the 2014 school year. Originally starting with Kindergarten, the campus is now a K-Year 6 campus with plans for expansion and a focus on innovation and technology.
In 2018, the new 2-storey Junior School (K-4) building with 15 classrooms was opened. This building is an award-winning fully self-contained energy-neutral building housing over 100KW of Solar Panel energy capture and 26.4KWH of intelligent battery storage.
In 2019, the state-of-the-art multi-purpose Sports and Performing Arts Centre was opened.
In 2021, in its efforts to ensure a more sustainable future, Brindabella Christian College was the first private school in Australia to meet the requirements of the Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard for Organisations and was formally certified as carbon neutral.
Brindabella Christian College currently has over 1200 children and young people enrolled over its two campuses, with Ms Suzanne Power as its current Principal. We thank God for blessing our school community since its foundation over 40 years ago, and we honour all those whose faith, vision, and hard work has made the College what it is today.
