Our College
Welcome to the BCC Junior School
(Kindergarten to Year 4)
The Junior School classes are situated in the Trixie Rudder building which was built in 1996 and named in honour of one of the foundation teachers of the College. The classrooms are well equipped with individual iPads, electronic whiteboards and wi-fi.
We currently have over 240 students from Kindergarten to Year 4, who explore their God given gifts to reach for their full potential.
Junior School staff are committed Christians who value each student as a precious gift from God and aim to develop their gifts and abilities through a caring and Christ-centred learning environment.
Parents are a valued part of their child’s education and staff appreciate their input. Ways that parents currently help in the classroom include:
- Literacy groups,
- Library,
- Athletics Carnivals,
- Excursions and
- General classroom assistance.
Parents and family members are also invited to weekly Friday class and worship assemblies when students showcase their learning. Additionally, there are special times throughout the year, when the community gathers together. These include Mid-Semester Showcases, Book Character Day, Easter Hat Parade, Grandparent’s Day and various other celebrations.
The Junior School curriculum is well planned with Literacy and Numeracy groupings to allow students to work at their individual levels with extension and assistance when needed. Numeracy is supported with the online program Mathletics, which assists students with understanding mathematical concepts and provides extension opportunities.
Junior students have the opportunity to participate in extra curricular activities including:
- University of New South Wales competitions,
- Singing and instrumental music classes,
- After school sports program
- Biennial involvement in the College musical
Students in Year 3 and 4 use an open learning space environment which encourages the children to work collaboratively with peers when appropriate. A 3 day camp in Term 1 is also a highlight of Years 3 and 4.
All Junior School students have their own iPads for classroom use, which allows teachers to use suitable apps that support a wide range of learning. The iPads are used across a variety of subjects and basic usage skills, safety and applications are continually evaluated, so as to provide the best outcomes for students.
Music for Junior School students is provided by specialist teachers and includes the opportunity to participate in the Junior School Choir. All Year 2 students learn the Recorder and Year 3 students learn a stringed instrument (leased from BCC) as part of our String Ensemble program. Additional individual music tuition in a variety of instruments can be arranged with lessons taking place during normal school hours, with private tutors.
Through the Buddies program, the Junior classes enjoy interaction with older students in a mix of academic and social situations which helps to foster the family community that the College treasures.
Whilst striving for academic excellence through new and carefully planned learning experiences, the Junior staff and students also share worship, prayer and Biblical understanding through class devotions, the Biblical Living program and worship times.
Brindabella Christian College Junior School is an innovative and caring department where learning is fun, meaningful and extremely worthwhile.
